Facts:
History
In 1889 the tower was a colossal fairground attraction, but during the 1920s it became a symbol of modernity and the avant-garde, inspiring poets such as Guillaume Apollinaire, film-makers, photographers and numerous painters.
The Tower very soon became a favourite subject for painters, and contemporary artists continue to use it as their model.
Georges Seurat painted it in 1888, even before its completion. The pointillist style of the picture, with coloured marks juxtaposed to draw light and movement out of the shapes, is exactly consistent with the Tower's own style of architectural expression.
Later the Tower was also celebrated by Le Douanier Rousseau, Signac, Bonnard, Utrillo, Gromaire, Vuillard, Dufy and Chagall. Robert Delaunay gave it cubist facets in a whole series of canvases started in 1910.
The Symbol of Paris
The worldwide symbol of Paris. It was built for the World Fair of 1889, held to commemorate the centenary of the French Revolution. Named after its designer, Gustave Eiffel, it stands 1050ft high and held the record as the world's tallest structure until 1930.
There are three viewing platforms you can reach by elevator (or you can walk to the first two levels) and from the top you'll find absolutely breathtaking views. The restaurant at the top of the Eiffel Tower, the 'Jules Verne', is an expensive but memorable treat, though one has to book well in advance. On the stage below with the same view and less expensive is the 'Altitude 95', which has a Belle Epoque setting.
Ice Skating in Winter
A frosty silver and white atmosphere welcomes visitors at the Tower entrances and to each floor of the monument. The ice rink has a special playful lighting and the Tower itself continues to sparkle each night (10 minutes every hour on the hour, from sunset to 1:10am): a magical moment is guaranteed! At 57 meters above the Champs de Mars garden, on the first floor platform of the monument, a 200m2 ice skating rink is open every day from December 10 - January 23, 9:30am to 9pm.
All those visiting the monument have free access to the rink.*
Altitude 95's bar is transformed into a tea room each afternoon, offering hot spiced wine and an array of Christmas cakes, buffet style.

Our advice to get the best of your Eiffel Tower visit:
1st Floor : exhibits and displays are there to explain the history of the tower, the techniques and know-how that are involved and the important events that took place there. Additionally, signs which indicate to the visitor other sites and buildings that can be seen from the Tower
2nd Floor : the circular view over Paris makes it the ideal place to take great photos of Paris and the esplanade below.
3rd Floor : From the 2nd floor up, the 160 m trip in the panoramic lift ends with the discovery of a unique view over Paris. Two areas are at your disposal: one outdoor, the other sheltered. Tickets available on the 2nd floor.

The restaurant has different colours in the evening. A hostess welcomes you and escorts you to your table, where the atmosphere is one of quiet comfort. The furniture is minimalist so as not to steal the show from the city of lights. An ultra-contemporary setting and a chic and trendy menu.
