Once a royal Renaissance palace, the Louvre Museum houses some of the world's most famous works of art, highlights of which are the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, the Winged Victory. Closed on Tuesdays.
Museum of Decorative Arts In the Louvre complex, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs presents an exceptional collection of Italian primitives, tapestries from the Middle Ages and eighteenth century (220,000 items, objects, drawings, furniture, plate, jewels, ceramics, glassware, upholstery, old and contemporary posters, toys...). Six chronological departments are organized into period rooms marking out the stages in everyday life from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century.
Museum of Publicity. Housed in the same building as the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, the Musee de la Publicite houses 80,000 old and contemporary posters. The history of the poster from the end of the eighteenth century to the present day.

Musee de l'Art Moderne de la ville de Paris Housed in the Palais de Tokyo - Mainly devoted to artists working in Paris in the early 20th century, the museum has major collections of works by Georges Rouault, Robert and Sonia Delaunay, Raoul Dufy. Other highlights: Modigliani's 'La Femme aux yeus bleus', two of the three Henri Matisse triptychs of La Danse (1931-33) and the monumental La Fee Electricit'(1937) by Raoul Dufy. There are often major exhibitions held here, and there is a nice cafe vdownstairs.
The Museum of Man - is one of the world's most important museums devoted to anthropology, ethnology, and prehistory. Its collections are arranged generally according to geographical region, and include the Inca mummy (in fetal position) which inspired Edvard Munch's painting The Screem.

Musee Rodin housed in the magnificent Hotel Biron. August Rodin originally rented rooms in the Hotel for living and as a studio. There were plans to destroy the house but in 1916 the French government agreed to convert it into a museum for him. The museum now houses his sculptures, academic paintings and sketches. There are also several works by Camille Claudel, the talented sculptor who became Rodin's muse, model, and lover at the age of 17. He was nearly 50. The lovely garden is a setting for some of Rodin's best known works including 'The Thinker', 'The Burghers of Calais, and 'The Gates of Hell'.
Musee du Cristal Baccarat - New address, 11, place des Etats-Unis, 75016 Paris, metro: Boissiere. Well worth a visit.
Musee Marmottan Has an impressive collection of Monet paintings bequeathed by his son, Michel. Included is the painting 'Impression Soleil Levant' which gave the impressionist movement its name. In the basement is a special room displaying a stunning series of Water Lily paintings.

Foundation Le Corbusier - Built by Le Corbusier in 1923, it is representative of 1920s architecture. It houses the largest collection of Le Corbusier drawings, studies and plans.

The City of Music includes the National school of Music, a concert hall and the Museum of Music Instrument. The museum presents a permanent collection of more then 1000 music instruments from the Renaissance to nowadays as well as paintings, sculpture and art pieces dedicated to music.
Museum of Science and Technology issituated to the north of the 3rd arrondissements, this museum contains machines and models relating to great inventions from 1500. It has recently been completely restored and the description besides each exhibit is now both in French and English.

Across the river from the Louvre, was originally a Beaux-Arts train station but by the 1950's its platforms became too short and it was up for demolition. An innovative restoration transformed the train station into a museum spanning art from 1830 to 1914.
