Canal St-Martin
canal St-Martin is a pleasant tree-line canal crossed by iron footbridges
and locks and some upscale bars, cafes, restaurants and boutiques
along its banks. By the side of one of these footbridges is the
Hotel du Nord made famous by Marcel Carneís classic film, 'Hotel
du Nord'. The Hotel is now a lively bar used for blues and comedy
evenings, sometimes in English.
Place de la Republique
Place de la Republique is a large square at the meeting place
of three arrondissements, 3rd, 10th and 11th and several avenues.
Its central sculpture, Morice's 'La Republique' , glorifies France's
many revolutionary struggles; rather ironically the square was
vastly enlarged in the mid-19th century by Haussmann to minimize
revolutionary activity in this part of the city.
Musee des Arts et Metiers
Museum of Science and Technology issSituated to the north of
the 3rd arrondissements, this museum contains machines and models
relating to great inventions from 1500. It has recently been completely
restored and the description besides each exhibit is now both
in French and English.

"We stayed two nights; we wanted to be near the Gard le Est as we were leavinbg by train but also wanted something not too tucked away and this hotel was ideal. The staff were very polite. The Hotel position was very good for tourists, we walked about late at night at ease, plenty of places to eat or drink with ready access to the metro.. The rooms were a bit noisy but very clean, simple but neat. I would use this place again for a short, non business visit. - Strain Shaun (Oct 31, 2005)"
The hotel is located not far from the central, easy access to other major Metro. The price is very reasonable ideally for families. Friendly service and the hotel is kept very clean. - Chan Lawrence (Jun 12, 2005)
