Canal St-Martin
canal St-Martin is a pleasant tree-line canal crossed by iron footbridges
and locks and some upscale bars, cafes, restaurants and boutiques
along its banks. By the side of one of these footbridges is the
Hotel du Nord made famous by Marcel Carneís classic film, 'Hotel
du Nord'. The Hotel is now a lively bar used for blues and comedy
evenings, sometimes in English.
Place de la Republique
Place de la Republique is a large square at the meeting place
of three arrondissements, 3rd, 10th and 11th and several avenues.
Its central sculpture, Morice's 'La Republique' , glorifies France's
many revolutionary struggles; rather ironically the square was
vastly enlarged in the mid-19th century by Haussmann to minimize
revolutionary activity in this part of the city.
Musee des Arts et Metiers
Museum of Science and Technology issSituated to the north of
the 3rd arrondissements, this museum contains machines and models
relating to great inventions from 1500. It has recently been completely
restored and the description besides each exhibit is now both
in French and English.

The staff at the hotel were wonderful,congenial and very helpful. Willing to answer our questions and make suggestions that would either make our stay more enjoyable or our sightsseing easier or more efficient. The size of the room was surprising,but quite functional. I/we are not used to small rooms, it it was more than adequate since we were not in Paris to stay in our hotel room. The location was such that transportation was highly accessible and easy to use. All in all, it was a most pleasing stay. - Dorn Doug (Oct 14, 2005)
Lovely hotel. Conveniently located, positioned on busy road across from train station though noise not an issue. Parking through arrangement between station & hotel- secure and manned ~9euro 24hr. Breakfast not included in price ~8euro for buffet style (nice). Staff friendly & helpful, rooms clean though a little small. Well priced (for Paris!).
